Post One: It Belongs In a Museum

On my first day of adventuring I didn't sleep on the plan. It wasn't good. I got off the plane, walked to customs and waited an hour in line. Not two things that go well together. Any who we made it though, and took a train to town. We sat in the 'First Class' area, without buying first class tickets. They didn't even check our tickets the entire trip, but we moved anyways because we're 'good' kids.

We'll skip ahead a train trip and I'll tell the story of my journey to the hostel for the evening. My party first left from the train station thinking that we would take a bus or another train perhaps to make the adventure a titch more restful. those plans fell through the moment we found out that we had no idea how to get to the correct train route. SO we found another band of journeyers who happened to be going to the same hostel (and were also our classmates from St. Johns/St. Bens) and immediately set off on foot. It was a journey not to be forgotten.

We walked down the streets of London, admiring things here and there, people almost getting hit by cars (they don't have stop signs here...or speed limit signs...very different place) It was about a 40 min walk till we arrived at our destination: Astor Hyde Park. A nice little hostel right next to Hyde Park...and has a check in time at 2:00 p.m. It was 11ish. We wandered for a little while and eventually got a room and crashed for awhile, went to dinner, which wasn't very large and not too inexpensive and went to a certain familiar restaurant for ice-cream (not the first one you probably think of.)

After walking back (both ways to and from dinner were 40 mins) we walked around Hyde Park, then back to the hostel and to sleep (after reading a bit of The Godfather).

In the morning we had a small breakfast and were off for a day of travel. We walked to a train station and bought an all day pass (which was a pretty good price) and headed for the British Museum. I greatly enjoyed it. It had many artifacts from many places of the world. To explain everything that I saw would take much more time than I am willing to type. To be honest, I wish I could have spent more time there, but I will come back someday just for that I think. It was great, and if you wish to see pictures, I will have them on Facebook eventually. If you don't have a facebook, I'll show you another time.

From there we got lunch (which was pretty good) and looked for Buckingham Palace. It was...a nice building. As was the Westminister Abbey, which we also saw. My favorite building was Parliament only because it was really cool looking. Big Ben was a big clock, so...yay.

Anyways, we're off to find a fish and chips shop and then I requested we go see 221 B Baker street (I just want to say I was there). We'll see where this little adventure takes us.

  2. 221 B. Baker Street is brilliant, as the Brits would say. Except for the creepy wax figurines, it feels like Holmes and Watson might come strolling back in at any minute...
